Parish Council The Parish Council functions as an advisory board to the Pastor regarding the spiritual and material concerns of St. Camillus Parish. The Council meets at 7:30 on the third Thursday of each month, September through June. Meetings are open to the public. The Parish Council is composed of the parish clergy, and 15 elected adult members of St. Camillus who represent the ethnic and cultural diversity of the parish. Each council member brings his or her interests, projects, and hopes for the parish, and also serves on another committee outside of the Council. The Council members are elected to serve three-year terms; normally a third of the council is elected each year in May. The final meeting of the year in June combines the current council and the new council members.
Mike Miehl is beginning his second year as president of the Parish Council. He and his wife Roxana reside in the Oakview area of Silver Spring and have been members of the parish since 2003. Mike, a high school science teacher by profession, has been involved in Young Adults, St Francis Builds, Habitat for Humanity, the Multicultural Choir, Pre-Cana and St. Vincent de Paul.
Donna Henderson has been a Parish Member since 1999. She resides in Adelphi, with her husband Chris and twins who attend St. Camillus School. She is an attorney with Metro. Her parish involvements include being a member of the PTSO and School Board and her talents include face-painter, brownie-maker, and baseball and softball coach.
Daryl Domning lives in Silver Spring. He is a paleontologist and Professor of Anatomy at Howard University in Washington, DC. He has been a member of St. Camillus Parish since 1987 and a member of the Parish Council since 2008. He is also a member of the English RCIA team.
Nancy Wiltz, a parishioner for the last 12 years, has lived in Kensington, Maryland for the past 26 years, but is a midwesterner by birth. She is a Professor Emeritus in Early Childhood Education from Towson University . Currently, she works part time for Towson University as the Director of Early Childhood Education at the Universities at Shady Grove in Rockville. Her ministries include Food Pantry, School Advisory Board and Habitat for Humanity.
Vicki Rivera, the daughter of Salvadoran immigrants, has been a member of the parish since she was 4 and active since she was 14. She is a student and a pharmacy tech. She is a religious education catechist, Eucharist minister, lector and involved in Cristo Joven.
Mirna Bonilla has been a member of St. Camillus for over ten years. She resides in Burtonsville, MD with her three-year old son, Adrian. Ms. Bonilla works as Executive Assistant with a housing management consulting firm. She is in her second year of tenure with the Parish Council. Ms. Bonilla currently serves on the Comité Hispano, works with the Evangelization program, and is a Eucharistic Minister.
A member of St. Camillus since 1993, Bob’s Franciscan roots stretch back to the early 1960s when he attended St. Bonaventure University. A classroom teacher for 21 years, Bob taught mathematics, science, history and Latin. He also worked for 12 years as a school system administrator before his retirement in 2004. Over the years, Bob has developed a special interest in adult Christian education. He has taught a 13-week “History of the Church” and has presented his “History of Christmas” lecture several times over the past several years. He has also offered a “History of the Mass” talk and is currently working on a “History of the Catholic Church in America” series. Bob currently serves as a member of the Archdiocesan Board of Education representing Montgomery County. Bob is a lector at the 7:30 Mass.
Guadalupe Mena resides in Silver Spring with her husband Carlos and her children. Lupe is employed as a housing program director and is involved in Fair Trade, Spanish Bible Study, Comite Hispano & as Altar Server Coordinator.
Lipika Gomes, at left, resides in Silver Spring with her family. Lipika has been a member of St. Camillus Church since 200_ and served on the Parish Council since 2008. She also has served in positions of leadership in the Bangla American Christian Association.
Oscar Galvez and his family reside in Burtonsville. Oscar (shown here painting our parish bus) owns a painting company. He is the president of the Comite Hispano, and, together with his wife, Dora, he is involved in the coordination of the Sunday Bible Study and in the Pre-Cana Marriage preparation ministry
Terry Sabonis-Helf lives in Takoma Park, MD. She is a professor of International Relations at the National War College/National Defense University in Washington DC. A lector herself, she also works with the teen lectors, has built twice with St. Francis Builds, and is a coordinator of our Best Practices for Parishes strategic plan project. Terry and her family joined St. Camillus in 2001.
Theodore Nagatchou has been a member of the parish for the past seven years. He has served in the Music Ministry (French Speaking Choir and Multicultural Choir) and also began serving recently in both the Fair Trade Ministry and the Social Concerns Ministry. He is a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a firm advocate in the St. Camillus Servant Leadership Program which he states, " has reshaped my mind. I have learned a way of loving, living, serving and leading that is creative, respectful and empowering..." Theodore has recently graduated with a degree in Finance and very soon will be starting his own business.
Jim Peachey lives in Silver Spring and works at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. Jim's family made St. Camillus their home parish more than five years ago. Since that time he has participated in Servant Leadership, St. Francis Builds, Precana, Children's Liturgy, Teams of Our Lady, and the Music and Fair Trade Ministries.
Anasatasia Mukami is entering her second year on the parish council. She is originally from Tanzania, and currently resides in Laurel. Ana is employed as a social worker, sings in the Multicultural Choir and is involved in Protection Against Domestic Violence.
